THE ROAR OF THE BORES
(To the Editor) ►Sir, — Xo one likes to stand in 1 1 1 1 • path oi' progress and we all know work for such an ond has to go on, but it is my contention that such work should be mirried >ut without eausing a nuisatK'O to the public and that is what the steam bores at the geothermal site at Wairakei are doing. They are allowed to bellow and roar day and night unrestrainedly to Ihe great annoyanee of all. Quite a number of persons have reti.red and come to live in this disfriet beeause it -is beautiful and because it was peaceful and qtdet, lmt now, ye gods, it is terrihle and the noi.se should be stopped. Were the work being dorie by a private enterpi'ise the noise would liave been declared a public nuisance and stopped loiig ago. Al'ter all the iaxpayer should have some say as it' is their money iliat js heing spent, and, holiovo me, Siigi I ain only one oi' a great many that are complaining, and this hoi'rible now is very distrossing to sick and elder ly ])eo])1e, for it nuikos 1h(? very air vih-i'ate and druiu in a most disturhing' wa. y and, makes sleep ainiost :iuiio;:::-ah!L Ilopinv; you will try and help in getting conditions bettered, I ain, ete.,
