Mr and Mrs W. Tong, of Hatepe and Levin, leave New Zealand early in March on a six months world tour. The outward journey will be by air, and the return by steamer from America. . \ . • *, * * \ Miss Haromi Morehu has eommenced teaching at the .Taurangataupo S.chool,, and Miss Rereahu Morehu has entered Ardmore Teachers Training College. Good progress is being made with the erection of the new bridge over the Hinemaiai River at Hatepe. The old narrow bridge has been something of a nightmare to travellers and .the new structure will be greatly appreciated. * * • * Hatepe residents are eagerly awaiting the reticulation of the area with. power from the Taupo Borough Council's hydro-electric station up river from Hatepe, and when householders arrive this is the first subject of conversation. A number of houses are already wired in anticipation of the coming of the power lines. * * * Fishing has improved lately * and some good specimens have been taken, especially, of brown trout. Mr W. Tong recenlly landed a 9£lb fish, and Mr J. Krivan two nine pounders. A number of very young trout, have been noticed at the river mouth. * * * The danger of children from traffic on the highway was emphasised by the recent accident, when Martha Morehu received a broken leg when hit by a passing car. Owing to the settlement being hidden" from the highway many motorists are unaware of the likelihood of children coming out on the road. A "Beware Children" sign at both approaches to the locality might warn motorists of the danger existing.
