TAUPO COUNTY NOTES

Staff Appointments. Mr I. W. Jones, of Wellington, has been appointed Taupo County Treasurer and has taken up his duties. Prior to coming to New Zealand some years ago Mr Jones was on the staff of Glamorgan County Council, Wales, whose area had a population of li million. Mr Jones saw service in World War II with a special signals branch of the British Army. At one time he was stationed in Chungking, Teaching there by motor truck via the Burma Road. Mr Jones also had experience on the staff of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, London. Mr G. E. Hickford has been appointed County Overseer, and will take up his duties on January 10, 1955. Mr Hickford, who is Senior Overseer for the Tauranga County Council, has been with that Council for nearly twenty years. His family has a local tradition of local body service, his father having been a County Engineer in the M'anawatu. Mrs Cleo Nelson, of Taupo, has been appointed to the County staff as draughtswoman, and has already commenced duty. Mrs Nelson had seven years service in this capacity with the Architectural Division, Ministry of Works, Wellington, Mr G. W. Nelson has been engaged by the County as assistant in connection with planning and surveys. Mr Nelson has had experience with the Housing and Architectural Divisions, M.O.W. SjC ❖ & Taupo County Office. The Taupo County Office will open on Monday, January 10, at the present premises in Staines Building, Heuheu Street. It will remain there until the County takes possession of the Onslow House property, Lake Terrace Road, sometime in February, when all holiday accommodation bookings there have run out. * ❖ ❖ County Commissioner. Mr A. H. O'Keefe, Taupo County Commissioner, expects to take up permanent residence in Taupo by February next.
