Site For Reservoir. At a special meeting of the Council on Monday, November 22, Mr Lloyd Mandeno, consulting engineer, in addition to reporting on electrical matters, including output of the present plant, radio communication to the Power Station, proposed additional reticulation, staff and housing, also reported in regard to the Councirs proposed water scheme. On the motion of Cr J. D. Swan, seconded by Cr K. O. Lewis, Mr Mandeno was authorised to negotiate for a suitable site of at least awo acres for the erection of a reservoir. ^ Subsidy On War Memorial. The Council received at its meeting on Wednesday, December 1, a letter from the Secretary for Internal Affairs, forwarding the final instalment of the subsidy payable by the Government on the War Memorial Hall. The amount was £1836/11/4 bringing the total subsidy paid to £7181/4/10, which was the maximum £ for £ subsidy. * # * Septic Tank At A.C. Baths. A letter to the Council from the Ministry of Works, Hamilton, stated that a septic tank would be installed for sanitation at the A.C. Baths. Some extra costs would be involved and the amount would be advised later. The installation would not be ready before Christmas. The Mayor stated that temporary sanitary arrangements would be made. % * :jc Carnival Events In Hall. A letter to the Council received at its first December meeting from Mr J. Burge, secretary of the Central Carnival Committee, asked for a number of bookings for the War Memorial Hall for events to be organised by the various Queen Committees and the Central Committee. It was decided that each of the Queen Committees be given one free booking and the Central Committee two free bookings, other bookings to be charged for at scheduled rates. * ❖ ❖ Fees On Subdivisions. A report, on the matter of fees payable to the Council by owners of land on its being subdivided, was presented to the Council meeting on December 1 by the Town Clerk. After discussion of the basis on which fees should be payable as contributions to the Land Reserves Account, and the amount of same, it was decided to seek information from a number of other Boroughs as to their practice. * ❖ * Poisonous Weed. In a letter received at the recent Council meeting Mrs W. King advised of several localities in the Borough where the poisonous hemlock was growing. It was decided to thank Mrs King for her letter, and instruct the Borough Foreman to deal with the matter.
