COLOUR SCHEME Sir, — It would be interesting to know what the good people of Taupo really think of the colour scheme for the exterior walls of the War Memorial Hall. To judge from the blaze of yellow that smote me in the eye the other day the final result, by the time the two shades of gfey have been added, promises to be something in the nature of a surrealist's dream. In my humble opinion this colour scheme is completely out of harmony with the Maori inscription adopted by the Borough Council for the insignia of the Hall. With the addition of a yellow flag the building would pass for a quarantine station, or a fever hospital. The whole colour plan with its appalling yellow suggests something conceived in the throes of a violent bilious attack. I understand there was some argument in the Council on the distinction to be drawn between the shades of yellow and primrose. Wordsworth's poetical vision could see more: " A primrose by a river's brim A yellow primrose was to him ..." However, if we must have it, it may be useful as a constant reminder of the Yellow Peril that now darkens our horizon. I am> etc.,
