APPEAL TO PEOPLE OF THE WHOLE PROVINCE
In a letter addressed to the editor of the "Taupo Times" the Mayor of Auckland, Mr J. H. Luxford, seeks the help of the "Times" in placing before the people of the town and district of Taupo his appeal for donations toward the amount still required to carry out the Auckland Provincial War Memorial project. The "Times" will open a subscription list in next week's issue and this wili remain open, as suggested by Mr Luxford, until December 21. Subscriptions may be left at the "Times" Depot, Heuheu Street. Mr Luxford emphasises the fact that the project, which provides for ' the extension and completion of the existing provincial War Memorial, the Auckland Museum, is not merely a local project, but one to commemorate , the 3500 men and women of the Auckland Provincial District who lost their lives in the Second World War. The War Memorial Museum, widely known as one of the most beautiful examples of architecture in the Dominion, will when complet,ed as now planned be a magnificent and worthy memorial. Mr Luxford states that Metropolitan Auckland has subscribed generously to the project, and that he feels sure that the people of the outside towns and counties of the province will welcome the opportunity to make donations when the provincial nature of the memorial is brought to their notice, A sum of £90,000 is still required and it is hoped to raise as much as possible of this by direct voluntary contributions. ; , \ i— » - - ' — . . -^al
