BRAKE TESTS ON THE ROADS

NEW TRAFFIC SAFETY MOVE Traffic Officer Robert Miller, who has now been appointed by the Transport Department, to the Taupo district as resident officer, following Mr R. L. Lark's transfer elsewhere, advises that something new will be seen on the roads before Christmas. Signs will indicate special areas where traffic officers will carry out brake tests, and passing motorists are likely to be stopped for this purpose. Explaining the new plan, Mr Miller said it would be a permanent feature of the Department's safety programme. It was not intended that the check points be manned seven days a week but officers would frequently be on duty to carry out tests. Emphasising the importance of good brakes Traffic Officer Miller said motoristts would be wise to have their vehicles looked over in readiness for the holidays. "Get in now and avoid the rush," he urged. "Record holiday traffic is expected, and trouble taken now i means trouble-free driving later."
