Business Changes Hands. The business of Watsons Furnishers, Tongariro Street, established by Mr and Mrs Jack Watson, has been sold to Mr Noel Dowell, of Taumarunui. _ Mr Dowell will take over the business on Monday, next, November 29. Mr and Mrs Watson will continue to reside in Taupo. sj: ifc ❖ Power Scheme Progress. The Electrical Inspector, Mr J. M. Sherwood, reported to the Council on November 15 that service lines had been run in the Borough and at Waitahanui, while a low-tension line from Nukuhau Street to the site of the caretaker's residence at the Control Gates had been erected by the State Hydro Department. With 36 new connections made during the month the total number of consumers was now 969. * & % $ Heavy Thunderstorm. A heavy thunderstorm raged over Taupo between four and five p.m. on Thursday, November 18. The current from the Hatepe Power Station was cut off by lightning for about an hour. At Waitahanui a fuse in one of the transformers was blown and current in the area cut off for a time. Several 'radio sets in the northern portion of the Borough had transformers burnt out and telephones in that area were also affected. Several residents had electric light bulbs burnt out, and in one house a light bulb was shattered into fragments.

Yandalism. The score board erected in Tongariro Street, to indicate the position of the various Queen Candidates in the Sports Ground Queen Carnival contest, has again been attacked by some anti-social vandal. The pointers were forcibly removed over last week-end and the board rendered useless meantime. ❖ ❖ ❖ Footballers Picnic. Members and officers of the Taupo Football Club had a picnic excursion to Whakaipo Bay on Sunday last in the launches Rothesay and Rangatira. On the credit side were fourteen trout caught and some excellent swimming and sunbathing. Temporarily on the debit side were a pair of spectacles lost by the Club President, Mr J. M. Stanley, who forgot to remove them before diving overboard. Mr T. J. Keehan dived *for and recovered them.
