The Late Christopher Bean. Four new players will make first public appearances in Taupo when the Dramatic Society presents "The Late Christopher Bean" at Rickit's Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings next, They are Mary Kruit, Sam Howie, D'Arcy Reid and Jack McBeth. Other members of the cast are Eunice Birnie, Audrey Patchett, Grace Booth, Ron Bjongard and Wallie Fulford. Production is in the hand$ of Jim Birnie. Bookings are at Barlow's Bookshop and Taupo Book Club. ❖ Borough Councii Correspondence. At the recent Councii meeting comment was made on the large amount of "late correspondence," i.e., correspondence intended for attention at Councii meetings, but received too late for inclusion in the cyclostyled agenda provided for councillors. It was decided that correspondence intended to come before a particular Councii meeting must be received by the Town Clerk by 4.30 p.m. on the Monday before the meeting. Meetings are held on the first and third Wednesdays in each month. In cases of actual urgency letters received later may be dealt with at the meetings. * ❖ Election Meeting Attendances. The Prime Minister, Mr Holland, re-ferred recently to the "mild election temperature," and Mr Nash, Opposition leader, observed that "people just do not seem to be turning out to election meetings — those who* are going are party supporters." These comments received some support from several early meetings in the Rotorua Electorate campaign. At Mangakino on October 20, as reported by the Rotorua Post, Mr Ray Boord, Labour candidate, had an attendance of 135, and at the Waipa State Mill on October 21 an audience of 38. At Tokoroa, with a population of 5000, Mr P. B. Allen, National, on the latter date had an audience of 40 odd.

Baths and Camp Caretakers. The CounciTs meeting held on October 20 decided to invite applications for two attendants, one male and one female, for the A.C. Baths, and also for a caretaker for the Camping Ground and~ the War Memorial Hall. ❖ ❖ ❖ Insurance On Memorial Hall. Information placed before the Borough Councii meeting of October 20 indicated that the fire insurance premium required to cover the War Memorial Hall would amount to some £65 (sixty-five pounds) per annum. ❖ ❖ ❖ Unpaid Borough Rates. The Deputy-mayor, Cr J. D. Swan, enquired at the recent Councii meeting as to what amount of rates was still outstanding. The Jown Clerk, Mr S. Torepe, stated that there were some rates unpaid and that a statement of the position would be ready for the next Councii meeting. >\ ❖ ❖ Report Wanted On Buildings. At the Borough Councii meeting on Wednesday, October 20, the question of certain buildings erected on a recently subdivided area in the Borough was discussed, A resolution moved by Cr W. G. Morris and seconded by Cr C. J. Vedder, to the effect that the Building Inspector be asked to report on the building permits issued for the buildings and also on the purposes for which the buildings were being used, was carried. * $ Five Government Houses. A letter before the Borough CounciTs last meeting, from the State Hydro-Electric Department, enclosed for the CounciTs information a plan of a house to be erected adjacent to the Control Gates Dam, Taupo, for the Department's caretaker. At the previous meeting advice from the Ministry of Works was to the effect that four houses for Geo-thermal Project officers were to be erected in Tamamutu Street.
