CARNIVAL ACTIVITIES
Sports Queen Garden Party. The Sports Queen garden party held at Mr and Mrs Peart's home, Taupo View Road, on Saturday last was a most successf ul f unction, some £35 being raised for the cause. The Mayor, Mr J. E. Story, opened the proceedings, and Mrs Peart presented the three Queen candidates to the gathering. In the Baby Show prizes in the 6-18 months class went to Marian Lind, 1st and Kelvin Delaney, 2nd. In the 18 months to 4 years class Alan Wilson was 1st, and Patricia Lewis 2nd. The men's hat dressing competition was won by the Mayor, Mr J. E. Story, (Aberdeen Scotch cap), with the DeputyMayor, Cr J. D. Swan 2nd, (Winston Churchill's bell-topper). Other results were: — Chain-stepping, Col. Swan; Peg croquet, Mrs J. E. Story; Nail driving, Mr J. E. Story; Xmas cake weight guessing, Mrs Barry; Sunday dinner, Mrs Peart; Clock golf,jMrs Foote. ♦Jf ^ T -TFriday Night Attractions. The mairn item at the Civic Centre, Tongariro Street, tonight, Friday 29th, will be the Citizen's Queen Committee's Tyre Race, for which post entries willi be received at 7.15 p.m. All the usual attractions will be presented at the Carnival Hut, where the three Queen Committees have their stalls. The Sports Queen Fun Fair will be held in Rickit's Hall after the street events close down. ❖ Hc Maori Queen Talent Quest. The next Talentl Quest and Concert will be presented by the Maori Queen Committee in Rickit's Hall on Sunday night, November 7, the Hall not being available for next Sunday. Last Sunday night again saw a crowded Hall, and those wishing to see the next show should be early if they wish to secure a seat. Intending competitors are urged to come along. At last week's concert Miss Haromi Morehu's demonstration, of the double long poi was an outstanding performande. An Auckland visitor enthusiastically described Miss Morehu's skill in the one word "Terrific ! '* * % * Competition Results. The Maori Queen Mexican jacket competition was won by Mr Reg Smith, and the Taniko Belt competition by Mr Michael Orr. Citizen's Queen competition for Gent's Toilet Case was won by Mrs E. J. Arnold. ❖ ❖ ❖ Saturday Night's Programme. A Barn Dance is to be held by the Sports Queen Committee tomorrow night, Saturday October 30, in the Tauhara Woolshed, Rotokawa Road, beyond the Golf Links. In Rickit's Hall at 8.30 p.m. the Citizen's Queen Committee will have a Grand Mystery Dance. ❖ ❖ ❖ Talent Quest Winners. Winners at the Maori Queen Talent Quest announced last Sunday for the previous week's entertainment, were: — Senior class, Miss Freda Luana; Junior class, Yvonne Curtis; Group class, Waitahanui Entertainment Party.
