MRS EVELYN GILLIES

The death of Mrs Evelyn Gillies, wife .of Mr H. O. Gillies, of Taupo, which occurred at Rotorua Hospital on Friday, September 24, came as a tragic shock to a wide circle of friends. As a mark of respect all activities arranged for the Queen Carnival Contest that day were cancelled. Mrs Gillies was a daughter of Mr Ernest Hubbard, J.P., and the late Mrs Hubbard. The funeral took place on Monday, September 27, from St. Andrew's Church, the service at the church and graveside being conducted by the Rev. H. Tangohau. The widespread sympathy felt for Mr Gillies and his two young sons, Hendon and William, was shown by the large number of beautiful flowers, and by the attendance at the funeral, which was thought to be the largest ever ^een in Taupo.
