CONFIRMATION SERVICE
ARCHBISHOP OF WELLINGTON AT ST. PATRICK'S CHURCH Twenty-seven candidates, both Maori and pakeha, from Taupo, Oruanui and Maroa* were confirmed at a service in St. Patrick's Church, Taupo, at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15, by the j Archbishop of Wellington, the Most Rev. Peter McKeefry, D.D., in the absence overseas of the Bishop of Auckland, the Rt. Rev. J. M. Liston. His Grace was assisted in the sanctuary by his chaplain, the Rev. Father James Austin, as subdeacon; the Rev. Father J. deBree, parish priest of Taupo, as Master of Ceremonies; and the Rev. Father H. Nederof, parish priest of Tokaanu, and the Rev. Father Luke, O.P., of Auckand, as acolytes. In addressing the congregation and the candidates for confirmation, His Grace emphasised the
sacramental system of the Church, as instituted by Our Lord for the supernatural life of the individual. During Benediction the choir, with Mrs D. Crowther as organist, sang appropriate Latin and English hymns. Mrs J. McBeth, Sunday School teacher, assisted by Mrs L. Steen, had attended to the required dresses of the children presented for confirmation, while members of the St. Patrick's Auxiliary Church Committee had decorated the Church with flowers.
