BASKETBALL NOTES

CLOSING DAY TOURNAMENT On Saturday last, September 18, a closing day handicap tournament was held by the Basketball Association, the team with the highest aggregate winning. Maroa, fielding a strong team, won 'easily, their team work and goaling being a joy to see. Wanderers, the runners-up, were lacking in combination work. Tournament points were as follow£: — Maroa (hcp 1) 39; Wanderers (hcp 4) 20; Primary (hcp 6) 19; Spa (hcp 5) 18; Mokai (hcp 4) 17; College Old Girls (hcp 3) 15; High School (hcp 0) 12; Huka (hcp 2) 10. Following the games, afternoon tea was served. The president, Mrs Bates, thanked the visitors, Mrs J. E. Story, Miss K. O. Lewis, Mr Foote and Mr Crabbte, for their attendance, and referred to the successful season the Association had had. Maroa and High School were to reeeive their trophies at the Ball to be held on October 9, and the President congratulated the two teams. Miss Lewis, Association Patron, and donor of the K. O. Lewis Cup, said that she was pleased the Association had had such a good year and presented a donation for the Ball. A Primary Schools' Tournament has been arranged for tomorrow, Saturday, September 25, for the Kilmister Cup, as an encouragement for the younger players in the area.
