TOWN AND MOUNTAIN
This panoramic view from the summit of Trig Station K, west of Nukuhau, gives some indication of the striking growth of the town of Taupo in recent years. The symmetrical housing group on the ieft of the picture comprises the Ministry of Works Geothermal Project mairied men's settlement off Huka Street, north of the Spa Road. Tauhara Mountain, dominating the whole area north-east of the Lake, and rising 3603 feet above sea-level is popularly regarded as marking the centre of the North Island.
