CHATEAU TO RE CLOSED FOR FEW MONTHS

At the sittings of the Waimarino Licensing Committee in Taupo on Saturday, September 11, it was stated that the Chateau Tongariro would be closed, with the Committee's permission, about the end of October, for November, and December. This was to enable an extensive scheme of work to be carried out, including re-lining and re-flooring the kitchen and installation of new cooking equipment. Power supply was to be changed from D.C. to A.C. and the heating system would be electrified. The cost would be many thousands of pounds. Treasury had approved the scheme, it was understood, and Cabinet approval was now awaited. Plans for improvements to the Government-owned Tokaanu Hotel were also produced to the Committee, including new accommodation for 17 guests, and new public and private bar accommodation.
