GARDENING CIRCLE

The monthly meeting of the Taupo Countrywomen's Institute Gardening Circle was held on Wednesday, August 11, at Mrs Glass's residence, where a display of flowers, including polyanthus snowdrops and wine-coloured pussy-wil-low, was a reminder that despite the recent frosts spring was well on its way. A large assortment of cacti and succulents was much admired, as also were two trays of miniature decorations arranged by Mrs Attwood and Mrs Stowe. Entries were good for the best decorated eggcup competition, won by Mrs E. F. Wright, with Mrs Stowe second and Mrs Murphy third. Mrs Smyrk judged the competition, her helpful comments being much appreciated. Three new members were welcomed to the Circle. Members stood in silence as a mark of sympathy with Mrs J. D. McLeod, whose mother passed away recently.
