THIRD GRADE RUGBY
NAPIER VISITORS DEFEAT TAUPO The Napier Third Grade Rugby team, whieh played the Taupo rep. team at Taupo on Saturday last, won by 8 points (2 tries, one converted) to 5 (a converted try). The game, a curtain-raiser to the senior rep. game, was played under the worst weather conditions of the year, steady rain falling throughout. From the kick-off Napier attacked and from a twenty-five yard scrum the ball went out to O. MeGarvie who scored well out, P. Sloan converting, 5 — nil. Napier kept up the attack and twenty minutes later G. Church went over to make the figures 8 — nil, haiftime finding the score unchanged. In the second half Napier found the wind and rain in their faces tiring, and it was not long before Taupo began pressing and kept up the attack. Napier excelled in picking up the ball, but could not make use of it under the persistent domination of the Taupo pack. Right on time H. Reid picked up near the Napier goalposts to score, and the tally was 8—3, W. Turetahi converting, the whistle for full time blowing with the score 8 — 5. Mr W. Gosling was the referee. The Taupo Rugby Sub-union Executive are grateful to those who kindly billeted the Napier piayers.
