RAURIMU SCHOLARS VISIT TAUPO A social and sports visit to Taupo was made on Thursday and Friday of last week by the boys and girls of the Raurimu Post-primary School. Upon arrival at midday the visitors were met and taken to their respective billets. The girls' Basketball teams lined up on the Taupo School courts at 1.15 p.m., the result being 20 — 1 in favour of the local school. The Rugby football game was more even, Taupo's better combination winning 16 — 6. Followingj the games, the visitors enjoyed a visit to the thermal baths at the Spa Hotel. The Taupo School were hosts at a social evening held in Rickit's Hall, a happy evening concluding with an enjoyable supper. Gaynor Percival capably earried out the duties of M. C. Visitf To Spa Sights On Friday morning the visitors assembled at the School and went by bus to the Spa Thermal Region, where as the guests of Mr J. W. Birnie they spent an enjoyable three hours seeing the sights and hearing the history of the area, together with a second dip in the warm baths. The visitors departed at 1 . 30 p.m. by bus for Raurimu, to the sound of cheers from the Taupo School children. Those in charge of the arrangements wish to thank the people who kindly billeted the visiting children, and also Mr J. W. Birnie. Football Notes The score of 16 — 6 in the Rugby game was not a true indication of the game, for Raurimu were by no means out-played. Taupo, however, combined better, due to their Saturday competition games, another factor being H. Reid's brilliance as second five-eighth. Three times he scored by getting up to his man, forcing him to muff the pass. A littie kick of two or three yards, the ball gathered in and a^ swerve round the fulback left the field open to the line. On cover defence he showed the seniors how it should be done, being always there. Scorers were: — For Taupo, Reid three tries, T. Wall one, W. Turetahi two conversions. For Raurimu Heath a try, and Rumble a penalty goal.
