INSTITUTE AFFAIRS

The monthly meeting of the Taupo Coun try women 's Institute was held in Rickit's Hall on Wednesday, July 21, Mrs J. Taylor presiding. The monthly reports were read by Mrs Tierney, and Mrs Turton gave the monthly Golden Thread reading, entitled "How Old Is Old?" Miss Hampton, a visitor from Hawke's Bay, gave an interesting demonstration on machine quilting and on how to line a plastic bag. Birthday sprays were presented to Mrs King, Mrs Glass, Mrs Wilson and Mrs Stowe. Competitions were as follows: — Canadiaii Datej Cake, W.I. Cookery Book, Mrs Wilson 1 : Patchwork article, Mrs Wilson 1, Mrs Murphy 2; Best vegetable, Mrs Murphy 1, Mrs Taylor 2; Best bloom, Mrs Glass 1, Mrs Taylor 2; Spray, Mrs McLeod 1, Mrs Murphy 2.
