GOLF CLUB NOTES
TAUPO WINS FIRST ROUND EWERT SHIELD Few ladies braved the elements on Thursday, May 20, to play the flrst round of the Ladies' Captain's Trophy. The only match completed was that betwen Mrs W. T. Irvine and Mrs E. Irving, which was won by Mrs Irvine 2 up. Despite very threatening conditions early in the morning Sunday, May 23, turned out a perfect day for golf, and the inter-club match against Putaruru was played for the Ewert Shield. Taupo won 16 matches to Putaruru's 9. This lead will be a great help when the second match is played at Putaruru in September. Stableford Bogey matches were played in the morning, the men's being won by J. Surrige (Putaruru) with 20 points, and the ladies by Mrs Vedder with 18 points. The president, Mr L. Cheal, in his speech welcoming the Putaruru team took the chance to wish Mrs McDiarmid, yrtio is playing in the N.Z. Ladies' Team, shortly visiting Australia, good golf and a | happy trip. i On Saturday, May 29, the flrst round of the Patron's Trophy will be played. Entries will be received in mixed pairs up to 1.30 p.m.
