The charges related to cheques given to the manageress of the Terraces Hotel, Taupo, and to the manager of Taupo Stores Ltd., Taupo. The trial was conducted before Mr Justice Turner. Mr J. D. Dillon, of Rotorua, appeared for the defence. No evidence was brought for the defence. Cross-examined by Mr Dillon, Rex Paul Atkinson, who was associated with Ladbrook in contracting at Reporoa, and who was one who claimed to be a creditor of Ladbrook said that he thought the contract was a little too large for accused, and he, was getting out of his depth.
