DRAMATIC SOCIETY

HUMOUROU S SKETCH BY LOCAL WRITER There was a good attendance at the Taupo Dramatic Society's fortnightly play reading in Rickit's Hall on Wednesday evening, April 28. The first item, a humourous sketch, "Aren't We Lucky?" written by Treve Price and presented by Dulcie Cohen and Sally Kent, kept the audience in a ripple of laughter j throughout. It portrayed with good humoured gaiety the trials and difficulties experienced by two unattached women in "settling in" to a house bought in Taupo, trials which no doubt would be paral- j leled anywhere else, but the delineation of which struck responsive chords in the Taupo audience's memories.

Mrs Price is to be congratulated on the success of what must be the first stage piece to have its premiere in Taupo. The two characters were entertainingly taken by Dulcie Cohen and Sally Kent, whose light-hearted confidence was admirably attuned to the spirit of the j sketch.

The second part of the evening's programme was the reading of a one-act "whodunit," "Master Dudley." Owing to the late arrival of the books this was read at sight by four volunteers, Avis Acres, Grace Booth, Anja Bostwyk and Bob Acres, whose sporting effort was appreciatively received by the audience.
