GIRL GUIDES PARTY

PRIZES PRESENTED There was an attendance of some thirty-five Girl Guides and Brownies at the seeond birthday party of the Taupo Girl Guides' Company, a prominent feature of whieh was a birthday cake made by the District Commissioner, Mrs Peart, and decorated by Mrs Snooks. Among guests present were Mrs Shepherd, president of the Local Associatiori, Miss E. Rickit, Miss McDonnell, Mrs Hough, Mr J. R. Osborne (Headmaster, Taupo D. H. School), the Rev. Fr. deBree, the Rev. C. G. Salt, Mr E. R. Hoy, Mrs Salt, Miss Tatana, Mrs Bull, and a number of parents. The Commissioner spoke on the Company's trips to Wellington, Hamilton and Rotorua, and mentioned that two girls were to attend a leaders' camp at Arahina, the special Guides training centre at Marton. Two of the girls also spoke, Beth Snooks, Company Guide, in appreciation of guiding, and Maadi Hough, pack leader for the Brownies, on the work of the Brownies. During the evening, presentations were made, one to Mrs Snooks by the Kauri and Robin Patrols, and one to Mrs Peart by the Fuschia and White Rata Patrols, and several dances were performed by the children.

The Swan Cup, for the most improved guide of the year, was won by Lyn Bull, the Junior Cup by I Emma Rewa, and two miniature cups for corner work by Rosaline Forster. The shield for the most j points for the year was won by the Fuschia Patrol and presented to their leader, Beth Snooks. Jacqueline Fooks was presented with a 2nd class badge. Miss E. Rickit was presented with a travelling rug, given by the Guides and Brownies, their officers, and the Local Association, in appreciation of her help to the Guides and Brownies since their inception in Taupo.
