A public institution as large and as varied as the New Zealand Post Office is bound to produce some odd facts. For instance, public business at Post Office desks consumes 1400 gallons of ink every year. By far the greater propor- j tion of the ink is used by the public at telegram, letter and savings > bank desks. In addition to a fleet f of 2100 motor vehicles the Post Of- | fice owns and maintains almost 1000 bicycles. Each day Post Office mail contractors travel 40,000 miles to deliver mail to persons living in *rural areas. The approximate weight of Queen Elizabeth II stamps placed on sale uast month was two tons five hundredweight. In all, 188,929 sheets of stamps in 21 denominations were supplied to 91 post offices. I
