BOROUGH BREVITIES

Bus Stops And Parking. A letter to the Council from Senior Traffic Officer Muggeridge, Rotorua, stated that the proposed bus stops suggested by the Council seemed ideal, but that with regard to the matter of parking in Tongariro Street he would like to meet the Council and go into the matter on the spot. It was agreed. that a meeting be arranged accordingly. % % % Building Appeal Dropped. At the Taupo Borough Council meeting on Wednesday, May 5, a letter was received from Messrs. Bisson, Moss and Bisson, solicitors, advising that the proposed appeal to the Town P'lanning Board, by Messrs. E. F. Gradwell and R. McLeod, against the refusal of the Council to issue a building permit for a garage, was not being proceeded with. A permit had been sought for the erection of a garage in Heuheu Street, in the commercial area. ^ Lake Front Culverts. A letter from the Ministry of Works Engineer, Rotorua, confirmed that lengths of concrete piping, for use in culverts to carry storm water from the various streets running into the Lake Terrace Road, under that road to .the Lake, would be supplied by the Department. The Mayor, Mr J. E. Story, said the letter confirmed an arrangement made by the Engineer, Mr Andrew, when they inspected the Lake front intersections together recently. ❖ ❖ ❖ A.C. Bath Dwelling. An application from the Internal Affairs Department for the temporary renting of the A.C. Bath dwelling for eight weeks for the use of the Department's Harbourmaster, Mr B. R. Williamson, was granted. The Harbourmaster's residence on the Landing Reserve, near the Wharf, is to be altered, and the temporary accommodation is required while the work is in progress. The Baths are at present out of use owing to the reconstruction contract being in progress. * ❖ ❖ Litter on Road. Cr K .O. Lewis mentioned at the recent Council meeting that there was a large amount of litter lying about in Horomatangi Street between Tongariro Street and Ruapehu Street, particularly near the Ruapehu Street intersection, and suggested that the Council's rubbish cart might visit the area once a week. Councillors thought most of the litter came from school children's lunch wrappings being thrown down, and suggested that the school authorities be asked to draw the children's attention to the matter. ❖ * ❖ Uncleared Sections. A ratepayer wrote stating that a section adjoining his house, the scrub on which constituted a fire hazard, had not yet been cleared, though he had written to the Council some time ago. He stated that he would be glad ;f the Council would enforce the statutory provisions and have the section cleared. Cr W. G. Morris said the Council should go ahead and clear sections, charging the cost to the owners, in cases where the requisite notice had been given to such owners. The Town Clerk, Mr S. Torepe, stated that six notices had been sent out, but only two replies received. It was decided that steps be taken to have such sections cleared and the cost charged to the owners, where the latter did not clear same in terms of the notice given.
