MARCHING GIRLS' APPRECIATION

LETTER AND DONATION TO COUNCIL Following a recent meeting between the Borough Council and sports representatives, including representatives of the Taupo Marching Girls, the Council has had an area in the Domain levelled and sown in grass to provide a surface suitable for marching and other sports during nex-t summer. This is intended as an interim measure pending development of the larger area north of the present football ground. At the Council meeting on April 14 a letter was read from Mrs M. Woodward, honorary secretary, Taupo Marching Girls' Club, expressing the Club's apprectiation of the offer of the ground and thanks for the action taken, and offering the Council the sum of £20 toward the cost of the work. Councillors expressed their appreciation of the girls' gesture, and on the motion of Cr. W. G. Morris, seconded by Cr. C. J. Vedder, a resolution was passed accepting the offer with thanks and expressing the Council's pleasure at the public spirit shown by it.

Shona George, Taupo Crusaders' marching team leader, who was awarded cup and sash as Miss H.B. Marching Girl last year, and cup and medal for Champion Novice Leader at Mt. Maunganui this season, and has had a large part in the team's training.
