CLAUDELANDS NARROW WIN On Saturday, April 4, Claude- ^ lands Cricket Club brought a strong side comprising seven senior and three junior players. Kildey and Forster opened the bowling for Taupo, the latter being credited with five successive maiden overs. Kildey took the first wicket, turning a ball onto Williams' off stump. He obtained Green's wicket just before the luncheon adjournment when Green tried to pull him to the square leg boundary. Lunch was taken with the score at 58 for 2 wickets . Thereafter play brightened. Sapsford scored quickly, Hally after a match' winning innings was caught at deep mid-off, and Hemi, a left hander, was bowled roundj his legs by a break from Sam McKean. Moody, the skipper, trod on his wickets hitting Sutherland for six. Wakefield, after two beautiful j sixes off Kildey, was caught in the deep off Sutherland. Taupo did I well to dismiss their opponents for 160. The home team opened brightly, putting on 43 before Sherwood was caught off Williams. The score reached the late sixties before the visitors used their fast bowler, I Graham, who made Acres play on from a near yorker in his seeond over. Kennedy continued to defend solidly and his partnership with Sutherland realised 49 runs before both players succumbed just before the close of play. Taupo, 22 runs behind with five wickets in hand, were definitely in the running for a win.
In the morning, however, Gra- j ham's speed proved too much and the remaining batsmen were dis- | missed with 10 runs required. In 12.4 overs the fast bowler had taken six wickets for 20 runs. As the match was due to finish at midday the result was a first innings win for Claudelands.
