BUSINESSMEN'S MEETING
At the quarterly general meeting of the Taupo Businessmen's j Association held at Rickit's Hall on Monday evening, considerable discussion took place as to the shopping hours which should be observed over Easter under present conditions. In opening the discussion the President, Mr G. S. Anchor, stated that this question should be discussed by members as it was clear that some traders were considering exercising the rights granted them by special exemption from closing on statutory holidays. It was apparent that about two thirds of the members could not open on Easter Saturday, whilst others with special exemption preferred to wait and see if their competitors took advantage of their special exemption to eain extra
| trade on that day. Mr S. Kilford stated that he had been told by a high authority that a most sympathetic hearing would be given to any proposal for exemption from the normal closing hours. No conclusive decision was reach ed, but it was clear that the majority of businessmen present did not favour opening on Easter Saturday.
