Swan was granted leave of absence for one month on account of private business. The Aerodrome. The Air Department wrote advising that it was proposed to return to the Lands Department land not required for aerodrome purposes. This land is regarded as a useful addition to the area in the vicinity now being prepared for farm settlement. The Council took the long view on the question and decided that having regard to the possibilities of the future any such transfer as was contemplated should be on the condition that the land could be reclaimable should the necessity arise. The Memorial Hall. On the recommendation of the architects, (Messrs. Alleman and \ Lord,) the Council agreed that a Clerk of Works should be appointed to supervise the fulfilment of the terms of the contract for the Memorial Hall.
' It was also decided on the recommendation of the Architects that the outside lining of the Memorial Hall should be of Matai weatherboarding instead of pinus, and painted instead of stained. Motto For The Borough. Five suggestion-s for a motto for the Borough were received from competitors in response to the Council's advertised invitation to the public to participate on the basis and an award of one guinea for the motto selected. No decision was arrived at, and the matter is to be further considered. About A Service Lane. Arising out of the provision of service lanes in the Taupo Town Planning Scheme Mr M. L. Svensen, whose property is involved in
the widening of a lane by 10 feet wrote reserving the right to claim damages. The matter was referred to the appropriate authority for report. Also involved in the Town Planning Scheme was an application from Mr R. H. Pettigrew for permission to establish a depot on his property on the Spa Road. As the land in question was not in the industrial area, but adjoining that area, it'was suggested that the applicant could meet the requirements of the case by adding two sections to what he had in mind, thus making a complete block for incorporation in the industrial area. Uncleared Sections. In a letter to the Council Mr E. T. Smith asked that the owner of the section adjoining his property should be requested to clear it. The^ Council decided to take action accordingly. Subdivisions And New Streets. The Council's consulting engineers (Messrs Mandeno, Lee and Brown), submitted a preliminary report on minimum requirements in connection with street formation in new subdivisions. This was referred to the Works Committee for consideration and report. An Open Drain. The Department of Internal Affairs in a letter complained of the state of an open drain on the Taupo Harbour Reserve, pointing out that this was a danger to traffic and tourists.
