Miniature Putting Green. In a letter to the Council Mr W. Rogers stated that he had been unable to get the miniature putting green on the Domain floodlit in time for the holiday season and that he could not continue with it. He enquired whether the Council wished to purchase the building he had erected. The Town Clerk was instructed to advise Mr Rogers that the Council did not require the building, but in view of his bad season would reduce the rent from £70 to £35. The building was to be removed. ❖ ❖ ❖ Building Permits. During a discussion by the Council of building in non-residential areas in the Borough, Cr. C. J. Vedder suggested that applications for building permits in such areas should be submitted to the Council. During discussion Cr. J. D. Swan said he thought it would be a good idea, during say the first year of the Town Planning Scheme's operation, if that were done. With fortnightly meetings now being held this noed not entail undue delay. A resolution accordingly was agreet to. * * Nails on Road. At the Borough Council meeting on February 17 Cr. W. G. Morris produced a number of nails of different sizes that had been found on Roberts Street,, and stated that apparently they had been in pumice that had been spread there recently. From their appearance they might have come from the Lake Hotel site. Cr. K. E. Young mentioned that similar nails were found near the Golf Links, where filling had been placed on the road from the site of the. Lake Hotel fire. It was decided to enquire when the Highway Board's magnetic truck would next be in Taupo and the charge for its services.
Rubbish Collection. The Secretary of the Businessmen's Association, Mr M. L. Svensen, forwarded a letter stating that a deputation would like to meet the Council to discuss the matter of the business area rubbish collection and the charge therefor. It was decided to receive the deputation at the Council's fortnightly meeting on March 3. ❖ # * Footpath Paving, A letter from Mr M. L. Svensen enquired whether the Borough Council would be prepared to pay half the cost of paving the footpath at his projected shop and office building in Heuheu Street, as he understood was the practice. He anticipated that the paving would be required in about three months time. It was decided to ask Mr Svensen to submit a price for the work. % # % Junk on Roadsides. The Borough Foreman, in his report to the recent Council meeting, referred to the practice of storing old trucks and junk on roadsides in the Borough and stated that it was most unsightly and a danger at night time to strangers. It was decided that the Foreman should supply a list of such cases and that the owners be notified to remove the offending material off the roadway. V
