HOSPITAL FACILITIES
Sir, — As Taupo has only a Maternity Hospital, I consider it is high time some provision was made whereby local residents could share in the facilities of a General Hospital, i.e., a weekly or twice weekly clinic. Surely all residents feel the need for at least, the establishment of an Outpatients' Department here, rather than be obliged to go into Rotorua. Why should we be penalised by lack of general medical facilities, as well as dearer freight, poor roads, and our famous all-enevelo-ping dust? Ratepayers contribute toward hospital upkeep, but obtain no services for their contribution unless they are within a certain age group, and hence can patronise the present hospital. But what then of the children and older people? They too have need of medical attention, and their need is not at present being adequately supplied. I am, etc.,
"VICTIM."
