DOWN WITH DUST
MAYOR APPEALS TO MOTORISTS AND BUSINESSMEN A committee of the Taupo Borough Council has arranged for a supply of stickers dealing with the need to reduce dust on unsealed roads within the borough, and it is expected that these will be available for distribution within a day or so of this issue of the "Times" going to press. The stickers will be available free at garages in the town, and also from the Borough Council Office. Discussing the matter the Mayor, Mr J. E. Story said that it was encouraging to note that since the matter was taken up in the "Times" and thus drawn to public attention a considerable number of motorists ^yere regularly going slower on dusty roads. He felt sure that many more would willingiy travel slowly on these roads as the matter was further publicised. Mr Story said he hoped that all local motorists would obtain stickers as soon as they arrived and affix them to their cars. They were designed to gum along the bottom edge of rear windows, or of windscreens, without obscuring visibility. He also hoped that all businessmen would also display them in their windows or elsewhere in their shops. This would bring the idea before visiting motorists. The campaign for reducing dust by "going slow" was not a final solution to Taupo's dust problem, said Mr Story, but it was a practical and effective step which cost notfeing and had already been shown to be worthwhile. i
