TAUPO'S INNINGS WIN
CRICKET AT MINGINUI Since the match between Minginui and Taupo at Taupo in November the Minginui Club have lost two players, Diprose and Alder, who were responsible for a good proportion of their runs. In the earlier match Taupo scraped home with a narrow one wicket victory but at Minginui on February 7 proved far too strong for Minginui. Winning the toss, Taupo captain Sam McKean put his opponents iri to bat. Forster obtained a wicket in his first over and none of the batsmen were able to handle him with any confidence. He fmished with 8 wickets for 16 runs obtained in less than 14 overs. Neame's 6 overs cost 8 runs only and he was unfortunate in not getting a wicket. Taupo btsmen did not find runs easy and Sutherland was well caught in the deep attempting to drive Davidson. Beale was not at all happy and just reached double figures before he was out lbw. Kennedy batted stolidly for nearly an hour for 4 runs before he too put his leg in front of a straight one. Patience early deserted both Forster and Frank McKean and five wickets were down for 50 runs. Then Jack Smith joined Acres and this pair took the score past their opponents, adding 44 before Acres Was caught at deep square leg for 38 trying to pull Edwards to the boundary. Jack Smith was hitting hard, selecting the right ball to hit. His partnership with Stebbing added 27 runs for the 7th wicket and with the captain a further 18 for the 8th before he lashed out rather wildly and was bowled for a fine 35/ The last two wickets fell quickly and Sam McKean was undefeated for a steady 19. In the^Minginui second innings it was Jack Smith's turn to succeed with the ball. In seven overs he took 4 for 7. Stebbing, Forster and Sutherland also bowled well, Taupo winning by an innings and 26 runs.
