TAUPO'S DUST MENACE
ACTION BY COUNCIL References made at the Borough Council meeting on January 20 by the Acting Town Clerk, Mr M. Milton, to leading articles in the "Taupo Times" of December 4 ajid 18, dealing with the dust nuisance in Taupo, initiated a discussion on the subject by the Council. Mr Milton mentioned that he had noted, as the "Times" had stated, that the dust raised by motor cars travelling not more than 20 miles per hour was not so bad, but that when a speed of about 30 m.p.h. was reached the pedestrian or other cars were buried in dust. Cr. J. E. Barton concurred in the Clerk's remarks, and thought that
something could perhaps be done. If the matter of reducing speeds on the pumice roads of the Borough could be brought to the attention of visiting motorists some improvement could be secured. Could the Council do something in regard to notices which might be put up about the town? The "Times" had suggested that something on those lines might be put up by business places. A sub-com-mittee might be set up by the Council to consider the matter. Cr. W. G. Morris suggested that it might be worthwhile to provide strip stickers to affix to the rear windows of cars referring to the matter. Cr. J. D. Swan moved that Crs. Barton, Morris and Currie be a committee to go into the matter with power to act on the lines suggested. The motlon was carried.
