RUBBISH COLLECTION

The Borough Council's rubbish collection in the business area was the subject of a report by the Acting Town Clerk at the January meeting of the Couneil. Mr Milton stated that a number of accounts were outstanding, and that the Foreman reported that some business people were not providing proper rubbish tins, of which there were only three in use in the town. The Foreman stated, in answer to a question from the Mayor, that some used 44 gallon drums for rubbish, and packing cases, many of which were too heavy. The receptacles were not put out as required on the footpath and the Borough staff had had to go to the rear of premises to get them. It was decided that the Clerk send out accounts, together with a circular letter advising hat proper rubbish receptacles must be provided and that they must be placed out on the edge of the footpath on collection days. It was pointed out that such requirements were the universal practice in towns.
