BOROUGH BREVITIES

Ambulance Brigade. At the Borough Council meeting from on December 16 a letter was received from Miss A. Wehringo, secretary of the Taupo St. John Ambulance Association, advising that the Brigade had been asked to send personnell to undertake duty at Rotorua on Saturday January 2nd on the occasion of the Queen's visit. Miss Wehringo enquired whether the Council could assist financially with the costs involved. Councillors were sympathetic toward the request but mentioned that no information had been given as to what the costs would be. It was decided to ask the Association to submit details of the costs they had incurred to next month's Council meeting. * * Donation to Library. A letter from Mrs H. Peart, District Commissioner Girl Guides, was received at the Borough Council's monthly meeting last week, Taupo Town Library, as the 1st enclosing a donation of £12 to the Taupo Girl Guide Company's "Civic Pride" effort and in appreciation of the public support accorded the Guides. The Mayor spoke appreciatively of the donation, and moved that a letter of appreciation be sent to the Guides and Brownies. The motion, seconded by Cr. C. J. Vedder, was carried. ^ * * Mpior Camp Caretaker. The Reserves Committee of the Borough Council received eight applications for the position of Parks Reserves and Camp Caretaker and the following applicants were asked to meet the Committee on December 4: Messrs. C. H. Dawson, H. C. Strange and G. Souter. At the meeting of that date, Mr C. H. Dawson wrote stating he was unable to attend, Mr G. Souter was not present, and Mr H. C. Strange alone attended. He was interviewed, and appointed caretaker. % # * Community Lighting Scheme. A letter from the Businessmen's Association to the Borough Council asked for an interview with Mr Lloyd Mandeno, the Council's consulting engineer, with regard to the community lighting scheme. Cr. C. S. Currie said that the Association wished to obtain data re the arrangement of the various blocks and their respective limits. The Mayor, Mr J. E. Story, explained that the Association had been supplied with a map on which to mark out their requirements, and said that Mr Mandeno would be in Taupo within the next few days when a meeting could be arranged. * ❖ ❖

A.C. Bath Hours. At the Borough Council meeting in November, Notice of Motion was given regarding the alteration of the hours to be observed at the A. C. Baths. The hours hitherto have been 6 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. from October to April, and from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. throughout September. At the meeting on December 16 Cr. Young moved, Cr. Swan seconding, that the hours be fro m7 a.m. to 10 p.m. throughout the year. The motion was carried. The Town Clerk mentioned that season tickets had already been printed with the former hours shown. It was decided that the notice as to hours at the Baths be amended, and that tickets as issued be altered to show the new hours.
