MANGAKINO VISITS TAUPO Tennis, softball and cricket teams under ideal weather condiHigh School visited Taupo on Thursday, December 10th and played against Taupo High School teams under ideal weaher tconditions. In the tennis the Mangakino players showed general court superiority. For Taupo, Jewel Rakei played brightly and was the only Taupo representative to win a singles 'match, which she did 5 — 0. In the girls doubles both matches were won for- Taupo 5 — 1 by S. George and J. Rakei, and P. Pomana and M. Ngamotu. In the boy's tennis Sam Torepe played well but lost 5 — 3. In a bright and sparkling softball match the Mangakino girls won 20 — 16. The field was rough and both teams ground fielding suffered in consequence but fly balls were handled capably. The Taupo battery of B. Watson and G. Woodward was a good combination, while D. Harnm (captain) proved capable both as batter and first base. Results were Mangakino 4, 7, 0, 5, 2, 2,-20; Taupo 2, 0, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4,-16. In the cricket, the Taupo boys batted first but were thoroughly demoralised by the bowling of R. Carter, who quickly had the creditable average of 7 wickets for 9 runs. F. Wolfgram bowled soundly for five overs, four being maidens and took 3 wickets for 1 run. 1 B. Isabeth, the only Taupo batsman to make a stand, hit Carter for two fours. R. Rameka and B. Wall were the only other Taupo bats to score, each making a single. Mangakino passed Taupo's total of 13 with 8 wickets in hand. With the visitors score at 7, R. Rameka caught and bowled Best and two balls later Jones was run out. McNamara and Carter very quickly secured the six runs needed to win. At stumps McNamara was not out for 24, while the wickets of Carter and Wolfgram had fallen to B. Strange. After the matches the Taupo Post-Primary School entertained the visitors to afternoon tea. The School wish to thank the Taupo Cricket Club and Miss Rickit for the loan of the mat and afternoon tea equipment respectively.
