ENTERTAINING READING OF THREE-ACT PLAY

DRAMATIC SOCIETY SEASON ENDS WELL For the last play reading of the 1953 season on Wednesday, November 25, the Taupo Dramatic Society put on a three-act "who-dun-it," "The Late Edwina Black," by William Dinner and William Morum. The reading, the Society's first of a play of more than one act, was appreciatively received by a good audience. ; Sally Kent took the part of Elizabeth Grfham, companion to the late Edwina Black, Avis Acres that of her housekeeper, Terry Kent the part of her husband and Harry Beckenham that of the detectiv^ inspector. Making his first stage appearance, Terry Kent played mbst creditably, while Harry Beckenham's performance was convincingly done, his questioning being calculated to disturb even an" innocent conscience. Sally Kent's acting was excellent and she appeared to identify herself with the part, her performance being perhaps the best she has done so far.. Avis Acres as the housekeeper was in great form, and in particular well deserved the enthusiastic applause which was drawn forth by her acting in the scene where she indicates the manner of the passing of the deceased Edwina. The production obviously owed much to the producer, Dulcie Cohen, who is to be congratulated on the success achieved by the Society's biggest reading to date. * . $
