ELECTRICITY ACCOUNTS
LIARILITY OF OWNERS In reply to a councillor's enquiry at the Borough Council's monthly meeting the Town Clerk stated that outstanding accounts for the supply of electricity were now about £100, overdue amounts having been much reduced. One consumer, owing £15, had been cut off. The general position was satisfactory. It was stated in discussion that where the owner of a property had signed the application form asking to be connected, he was liable for power supplied,' even if to a tenant occupying the property. On this being queried the Town Clerk pointed out that this was so, as the Board's application form cohstituted a legal agreement and in it the applicant undertook to pay for current supplied. If an owner signed the application he would be liable for power supplied until he notified the Council that he did not wish current supplied. The tenant would then have to apply if he wished to have current supplied. On the motion of Cr. Young it was decided to obtain legal advice on the matter of the liability of owners and tenants for current supplied in order to clarify the position. Payment in Advance. Cr. Vedder stated that several owners of holiday houses in Taupo had asked him whether they could make payments in advance for credit of their electric light accounts. They were afraid that if their accounts were unpaid while they were absent from Taupo they might return to find power had been cut off, which would be most inconvenient if they arrived late at night. • The Town Clerk stated that payments in advance could be made by owners of holiday houses, and that already some eight or nine such part-time residents had made such payments which were shown to credit of their accounts.
