PUMP FOR FIRE FIGHTING PURPOSES

The late Town Board had before it at one of its last meetings a suggestion that a pump, situated on the Lake front, to raise water from the Lake when required for firefighting purposes, might be of use. Mr Lloyd Mandeno, the Board's consultlng engineer, was asked for an estimate of costs, and a letter from Mr Mandeno was before the Borough Council's Works Committee on November 16. Mr Mandeno advised that a pump to lift 500 gallons per minute against 80ft of head, complete with a direct coupied motor, would cost about £350. Six-inch pipes would be desirable, which would cost 12/6 per foot. The installation of the pump, piping, electric service and pump house would add, say, £175 to the cost. It was possible that a different rating of pump might be favoured by the Brigade. The letter was received.
