CRICKET NOTES
TAUPO REATS NGAKURU It is several years since Ngakuru played cricket on their Domain, but last Sunday morning they set to and rolled out a wicket when the Taupo Club paid them a visit. The pitch was unpredictable at the start but when the grass had consolidated it rolled into a good sporting wicket. The game resulted in a first innings win for Taupo by 39 runs. The visitors commenced badly losing three wickets for 2 runs. Beale and Mclsaac then came together and putl on 23 runs for the fourth wicket. Later Sam McKean scored in a steady 12 after the fielding skipper's intervention saved him from succumbing to an l.b.w. decision when he slightly touched the first ball onto his pads. With R. Beale he put on 34 for the sixth wicket. Harding and Beale added a further 20 for the 9th wicket and Beale was last out with a total of 93 of which his share was 60. He had played a stout knock, a very well judged innings indeed which included 2 sixes and 4 fours. The opening bowlers for Ngakuru Hyland and Campbell, were the most successful and might well have caused a complete collapse if they had been kept on longer. Ngakuru commenced their innings with some brisk scoring, but when Sam McKean came on he soon had the batsmen in difhculties. Thirty was on the board for the loss of two wickets, but the team was all^ out for 54. With an hour left for play Taupo batted on a much easier pitch for the first half hour and scored 52 for 5 wickets. F. McKean and Acres added 34 of these for the fourth wicket. Ngakuru were left with 91 to get to win in half an hour, but when time was called they had scored 45 for 5 wickets. Sam McKean again distinguished himself with the ball, his ten wickets in the match costing him only 34 runs. Beale kept wicket very well conceding only 5 byes in the two innings on a difhcult pitch, and taking three catches besides making several valiant attempts at stumping. TAUPO: — First Innings.
