LADY FROM ANDALUSIA
BRIGHT C.A.S. COMEDY The Community Arts Service Theatre presentation of "The Lady from Andalusia" at Rickit's Hall, Taupo, on Saturday night last drew a large audience. Translated from the Spanish of Joachin and Serafin Alvarez Quintero, the comedy portrays the amusing results that arise from the fact that Fernandita, the lady from Andalusia, wife of a chocolate manufacturer in Madrid, cannot resist the plausible wiles of anyone who comes from her native village. Rosaline Seddon, as Fernadita, the lady of the title, played her part with grace and distinction, making the foolish foibles of her sentimentality convincing, and seeuring the audience's sympathy for her muddle - headed generosity. Howard Biddlestone, as the goodnatured husband, indulgent and affectionates but fully aware of his wife's weakness and the wiles of those who impose on her, gave an ■ outstanding performance, enhanced by fine diction and ease of manner and gesture. Noeline Pritchard's acting of the part of the elderly Adoracion was a fine example of youth's ability to act the part of age convincingly. Geoffrey Wren played the part of the toothy yokel well, as did Anne Rhodes and Colleen Rea the parts of Rosita and Blanea. Good sharacterisations were given by • Kenneth Ling as Noblejas, Kenneth Akerman as Nicolas, Gerald Chambers as Felipe, Mary Hunt as Paloma, and Tottie Hindmarsh as Alberta. The standard of the production was high, there were no let-downs in the action and the whole performance went through with assurance and verve. Patric Carey as producer is to be congratulated on a successful and entertaining show. Costume design was by Rosalie Carey, Kenneth Ling was Stage Manager and Anne Rhodes assistant Stage Manager. ,
