THREE TAUPO GIRLS ENTER CONTEST

MISS N.Z. 1954 Three Taupo girls have entered for the "Miss New Zealand 1954 for Miss Universe" Beauty Contest, organised by the Belvedere Girls Sports Club, Ponsonby, Auckland, and co-sponsored by Catalina Swim Suits Inc., Universal-Inter- [ national Studios and the City of Long Beach, California. The Miss N.Z. 1954 Organising Committee has as its patron Sir John Allum, C.B.E., late Mayor of Auckland, with Richard D. Mackay, Auckland as Chairman and v Mrs Phyllis Schmidt as Secretary. The Taupo entrants are j Miss Margaret McLeod, Miss Marie Rickitt and Miss Margaret Smith. They will first compete in the "Miss Bay of Plenty" Contest, the fiiials for which will take place in either Tauranga or Rotorua.

Winners of area contests will go on to a territory contest, and winners will then compete in the finals of "Miss New Zealand" to be held at the Auckland Public Relations Office Biirthday Carnival at Western Springs Stadium in February next. Following a trip throughout New Zealand arranged by a motion picture theatre organisation, Miss N.Z. will go to Long Beach, California, U.S.A. to compete in the finals of "Miss Universe."
