FORGED CHEQUES

SERIES OF OFFENCES A youth who was arrested at Taupo by Constable E. H. Rowlands on October 23rd was charged in the Children's Court at Rotorua on Thursday, October 29th in connection with a number of offences involving the issuing of a number of forged cheques at Taupo. The de- [ fendant had been found in possession of a cheque .book which had been removed from a motor vehicle parked outside the Majestic Theatre about the end of September. He had forged the signature of the owner of the cheque book and cashed cheques at Taupo business places for amounts ranging from £2 to £12, in some cases buying goods and receiving change in others merely cashing the cheque.

Mr W. H. Preeman, S.M., admonished the defendant, who was returned to the care of the Child Welfare Department to be placed on the Levin Training Farm for twelve months.
