TUWHARETOA RURAL FIRE COMMITTEE
The annual meeting of the Tuwharetoa Rural Fire Committee was held at Tokaanu on Monday 19th, Mr P. Alfred Grace, chairman, presiding. Members present were Messrs. S. Darby (N.Z. Forest Service), J. L, Brooker (Maori Affairs), W. Bowick (Land and Survey), J. A. Asher, T. A. Grace, P. Hura, A. Mason, Maori representatives, and Mr A. E. Richards, Secretary. The balance sheet showed a credit balance of £3452 and assets £3542. Main expenditures on salaries, administratibn and running costs of two vehicles totalled £1108, while depreciation on plant and vehicles was £377. The budget for the year commencing July 1st provides for Administration £1500; erectibn of a central fire depot near Pukawa, £1500; Roading to Waituhi Trig and Lookout, £500; E:r_:rgen°y fire pat-
rol, £500; Walkie-talkies, £250. In view of the healthy finarclal position, it was decided to reduce the levy, to bring in an estimated amount of about £2400. The levy is made on Maori and Crown lands, the main portion being met by the Maori Trustee from funds held bti aecount of rents and timber royalties.
