MISSING FORESTRY WORKER
BODY IN CREEK Children playing on Saturday afternoon last, in the valley of the warm creek, which flows into the Waikato River near the Spa Hotel, found the body of a man in the creek. The matter was reported to the local police, and an inquest was later opened by the Coroner, Col. J. D. Swan. Mr. M. F. Weekes, Forest Ranger, gave evidence identifying the body as that of Allan William Lewis, aged 23, formerly employed by the Forest Service at j Sixty Bar Eight Camp, on the Napier Highway. Deceased was an assisted immigrant from Britain and had been employed at the Camp since July last. His parents reside in Liverpool. The inquest was adjourned sine dle.
It is understood that deceased came into Taupo on Saturday, October 3rd, with a number of his camp mates but that he did not return with them that afternoon. He did not return to camp for work on the Monday morning and was later reported as missing.
