TAUPO FISHERY BOUNDARIES
\ At the July Fishing and Shooting Conference the Taupo Rod and Gun Club urged that the Department of Internal Affairs submit a statement of steps taken toward amalgamation of the Rotorua and Taupo Fisheries Districts under one fishing license, or alternately toward a revision of the existing boundaries, as discussed with the Efon. W. A. Bodkin in June 1952. The Departmental Secretary, Mr A. G. Harper, has now advised that the problem of amalgamation has been thoroughly investigated, and that it would require amendment of\ existing legislation. Before steps could be taken in this direction it would first be necessary to negotiate a fresh agreement with the Maoris. This when commenced could be expected to be a protracted matter. The present was not considered an opportune time to commence negotiations, and the same remarks applied to the revision of boundaries. The Department regretted it was unable at the present time to take action.
