Taupo County. The Minister of Lands, the Hon. E. B. Corbett, has announced the Government's intention to introduce in the House shortly legislation authorising the appointment of a County Commissioner for Taupo County. The Local Government Commission would be asked to investigate the whole position with the idea of the establishment later of a County Council. The Counties Act has never been in force in the. Taupo County, nor in the two counties of East and West Taupo that preceded it, owing to the lack of population.

Guides and Royal Visit. The parade of Girl Guides from I the Bay of Plenty, Rotorua and Taupo area, on the occasion of the Royal Visit to Rotorua, will be under the command of Mrs H. V. Peart, District Commissioner for Rotorua-Taupo. The Taupo Girl Guides are working hard to ensure finance to cover the cost of their visit to Rotorua for this important event. The Guides will form a ] guard of honour to line part of the street leading to the Rotorua District High School. The Royal car will proceed at four miles per hour on this portion of the road, both on arriving at and leaving the school grounds.

Taupo Ambulance. The Taupo St. John Ambulance was called on Wednesday last week to take to the Rotorua Hospital a j man who had sustained a broken leg and a head wound when a trac- | tor which he was driving overturned. He was Mr William Pearce, employed by the Lands and Survey | Department. The tractor rolled right over him, but owing to a depression in the ground he escaped with the injuries mentioned. The Ambulance attendant was Mr H. j Franklin, and Mr L. Sharp was the I driver. A patient was taken from Taupo to Rotorua Hospital last week, Miss D. Stewart being the I attendant and Mr Sharp driver.

Hotel at Waiouru. A meeting of the Waimarino Licensing Committee is to be held at the Court House, Taihape, at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 20th, for the purpose of hearing applications for a new publican's license at Waiouru. jEducation Board Election. There are three candidates standing for the Rotorua-Taupo Ward of the South Auckland Education Board's district, Messrs O, H. Coleman, V. J. S. Tunnicliffe, and N. Watt. This Ward is No. 10 of the recently created South Auckland Education District, and includes some eighteen schools. Members of the Board are elected by the votes of members of School Committees, recorded by postal voting.
