SCHOOL GALA DAY

PROCEEBS TOTAL £104 The Gala Day at the Taupo School on Thursday of last week, organised by the Home and School Association and the School Committee to raise funds for school purposes, was a marked success. Despite steady rain during the afternoon, there was a large attendance of patents and residents. Mr j, R. Osborne, Headmaster, stated that the number of parents attending was a most pleasing feature of the day and the interest thus shown was a great encouragement to the School staff. In a number of class-rooms samples of the children's school work were on view, and these attracted considerable interest. The many stalls and attractions arranged by members of the Association, the School Committee and the Staff were well patronised, and the sum of £104 clear of all expenses was raised. Materials and goods for sale in two White Elephant stalls and a needlework and clpthing stall, were donated by children, parents and friends of the school, while other goods, ice-creaia and soft drinks were donated by business firms. To all these donors the organisers with to express thanks for their generous help. Amongst other money-raising projects, the White Elephant and clothing stalls produced £17, the cake stall £15, afternoon tea £6, children's miniature gardens £12, raffles about £12. Prizes in these were v/on as follows: A dinner, Mrs Bocket, 21b box of chocolates, J. Smith; 11b box of chocolates, Feter Willis; sponge cake, Mrs M. Tawera. A baby show caused much interest, and the sale of votes at a penny each raised some £10. Mr and Mrs M. H. Clark's daughter Diane won with 629 votes, Mr and Mrs J. Bogue's daughter Heien be* ing second with 430 votes. Referring to the interest taken in the day, Mr Osborne said that thanks were due not only to Association and Committee members and staff, who had worked hard in many ways, but also to a number of others who came along an gave much appreciated help. It was a good community effort.
