CRICKET NOTES
Last Sunday a practice match was played between the Taupo Cricket Club and the new Sawmills Club. The Mill team batted first and thank's to a splendid innings by R. Mclsaac, a left-hander with considerable power who knew how to deal with anything loose, they totalled 101, of which score Mclsaac retired with 72 including four 6's and nine 4's. Frank McKean took three wickets for 5 runs and J. Smith 2 for 17. For Taupo Curham (34 retired) and Acres (27) shared a partnership of 66 runs for the second wicket, Taupo passing the Mill's total for the loss of 6 wickets, but being all out for 116. This was due to O. Delaney, who took four wickets for 13 runs, including a splendid lefthand catch from a tremendous drive by J. Smith. J. Davies with an enjoyable mixture of wides and straight balls obtained the creditable analysis of 3 wickets for 11 runs. Sunnex bowled well without any luck to obtain 1 wicket for 23 runs in 10 overs. Errol Smith, and three newcomers to the Taupo Club, Stebbing, Eyes and J. Smith, all showed possibilities as bowlers, although they suffered severely at the Mnds of Mclsaac. Last year's members, Sam and Frank McKean proved to be the steadiest of the bowlers. Next Sunday the season will open with a match which will no doubt be the first of several to be played between these clubs. It. will commence at 10.30 a.m. Practices will be held in future on Thiirsday evenings* L ^ . ,
